Harry Potter was pacing in his bedroom in his new house. His girlfriend, Ginny Weasley's, seventeenth birthday was coming up and he couldn't think of anything to give her. Ever since Voldemort had been defeated and the war had ended not too long ago, Harry showered Ginny with gifts and love. Harry wasn't planning to propose until Ginny graduated from Hogwarts next summer, so, that was out of the question. She had enough jewelry as it is, so, that was out of the question. Then, an idea came to Harry. He and Ginny loved dancing in the park to the music that played at the local muggle ice skating rink and Harry knew that Ginny would love to go there after such a long time.

"Ginny will be so surprised!" Harry exclaimed quietly as he began to prepare for the big night.

Ginny Weasley walked into her bedroom to find Harry sitting up in their bed, reading. Ginny smiled and sat next to him. She rested her head on his shoulder and began to nibble at Harry's neck. Harry gave out a small groan of pleasure and put his book on the nightstand. He looked at Ginny and pulled her lips away from his neck so he could look into her eyes.

"What're you doing, Ginger?" Harry asked.

"Pleasuring you," Ginny smirked before pecking his lips softly.

"Why?" Harry asked, grinning.

"Because I love you," Ginny whispered, wrapping her arms around Harry's neck.

"I love you too, Ginger," Harry whispered, wrapping his arms around Ginny's waist and kissing her.

The two made-out heavily for half an hour before deciding that it was late and they needed their rest before it got any further. As Ginny slept soundly, her head resting on Harry's bare chest, Harry stayed awake so he could think about Ginny's birthday present. He stayed up for another hour, thinking furiously and finally getting the night's activities correct and in order. Now all what he'd have to do was wait.

Ginny's Birthday

Ginny came into her house after spending the past three hours with Hermione and gasped as she surveyed the den. The den and dining room had been decorated with rose petals everywhere and the scent of ginger. Harry was setting the table in the dining room, placing chocolates and rose petals in all sorts of places. Ginny smiled and snuck up behind Harry, covering his eyes.

"Ginger?" Harry said, his hands reaching behind. "Is that you?"

"Yeah," Ginny smiled, uncovering Harry's eyes and kissing his cheek. "This is beautiful. And to think that you did it all for me."

"Well, you are the love of my life," Harry smiled.

He truned around, wrapped his arms around Ginny's waist, and pulled her close to him. Ginny wrapped her arms around his neck and kissed him softly.

"You're the best, Harry," Ginny whispered as they pulled apart.

"Thank you," Harry smiled. He pulled his arms away from Ginny's waist reluctantly and Ginny pulled her arms away from Harry's neck. "Get changed. I set out your outfit on the bed along with your favorite bath soap, lotion, perfume, and make-up. Be ready in less than forty-five minutes."

"Okay," Ginny said and ran up the steps to their bedroom.

Harry smiled and went into the kitchen to finish up the soup, bread, and chocolate pudding. After he finished setting the table, Ginny came down the steps looking like a beautiful princess.

Her hair was done in curls with sparkly green clips, her green eye shadow showed off her beautiful brown eyes, her cheeks and lips were pink, and her dress was the most beautiful of all. Her sparkly green dress went to her ankles, was strapless, and matched her eye shadow perfectly.

Harry rush to Ginny's aid to help her down the last two stair steps and guided her into the dining room. Harry sat her down at the head of the small, round table and sat across from her. Ginny inhaled the smell of the tomato soup and garlic bread and smiled. She had never smelled anything like it. It smelled a lot like her mother's cooking.

"Who cooked all of this?" Ginny asked as she took a bite of the bread.

"Your mum gave me the recipe and I cooked it all by myself," Harry said proudly. "Do you like it?"

"Very much," Ginny smiled before going back to her bread and soup.

Harry smiled and dug in as well. Throughout dinner, the couple talked about their future and what they were planning to do once Ginny was out of school. Once they were finished, Harry brought out the chocolate pudding for dessert and they ate it in their bed.

"This is all so wonderful, Harry," Ginny said as she finished up the last of her pudding. "Thank you so much."

"Oh, but the night has only just begun, Ginny," Harry said smirking. He put their empty bowls on Ginny's vanity and climbed back into bed.

"What do you mean, Harry?" Ginny asked.

Harry only grinned and jumped out of the bed. He put on his shoes, pulled Ginny out of their bed, put on her shoes, and carried her down the stairs hurriedly. Ginny laughed and held onto him tightly, afraid that she might fall with Harry going at such a speed. He set Ginny on her feet, gave her her coat, opened the door, and pulled her out with him. Ginny let Harry pull her towards the park, but was greatly confused.

"Harry!" Ginny finally called. She stopped abruptly and let Harry's hand go. "Stop right now, Mr. Potter."

Harry stopped mid-step. He spun around and smiled at Ginny in a child-like way. "Yes, Ginny?" he asked.

"That's Ginerva to you, Mr. Potter," Ginny said, crossing her arms, half-serious and half-jokingly.

"Pooh," Harry pouted, laughing.

Ginny laughed and stepped closer to Harry until their foreheads were touching. "Why're you so hyper?" Ginny whispered.

"I want to show you something," Harry whispered back, taking her hands in his.

"What is it?" Ginny whispered.

"You'll have to close your eyes 'cause it's a surprise," Harry whispered, wrapping a blindfold around Ginny's eyes.

Ginny smiled and nodded and Harry led her to the park. When he got to their favorite tree, Harry took off Ginny's blindfold and spun her around. Ginny laughed and kissed Harry softly.

"Why are we here, baby?" she asked, resting her head on his shoulder after they broke apart.

"To dance," Harry whispered taking Ginny's hands just as Here and Now by Luther Vandross began to play.

As Harry and Ginny danced happily and contently, absorbed in each other, Ginny began singing along to the song.

"When I look in your eyes
There I see
Just what you mean to me
Here in my heart I believe
Your love is all I'll ever need
Holdin' you close through the night
I need you, yeah

I look in your eyes and there I see
What happiness really means
The love that we share makes life so sweet
Together we'll always be
This pledge of love feels so right
And, ooh, I need you

Here and now
I promise to love faithfully [Faithfully]
You're all I need
Here and now
I vow to be one with thee [You and me], hey
Your love is all [I need] I need

Say, yeah, yeah...

When I look in your eyes, there I'll see
All that a love should really be
And I need you more and more each day
Nothin' can take your love away
More than I dare to dream
I need you

Here and now
I promise to love faithfully [Faithfully]
You're all I need
Here and now
I vow to be one with thee [You and me], yeah
Your love is all I need

[Starting here] Ooh, and I'm starting now
I believe [I believe in love], I believe
[Starting here] I'm starting right here
[Starting now] Right now because I believe in your love
So I'm glad to take the vow

Here and now, oh
I promise to love faithfully [Faithfully]
You're all I need
Here and now, yeah
I vow to be one with thee [You and me], yeah
Your love is all I need
," Ginny sang.

When the song ended, Ginny was asleep so Harry carried her back home and set her on their bed. Her tucked her in, climbed in next to her, held her close, and kissed her hair beginning to doze off peacefully.

"Happy birthday, Ginny," Harry whispered as he fell into a deep and peaceful slumber.

A little out-of-character for, well, *everybody*, but a sweet story nonetheless. :)
